Live At Sunshine (On Resort) Arnica Common Room Laryx Staff Accommodation Staff Accommodation Room View From Arnica Live at Sunshine (On-resort) On-hill accommodation is a great opportunity to live in a spectacular and remote environment; while having the option to step out your door to ski or board on fresh tracks on your days off and get to work in a matter of minutes. As co-workers from all over the world become your new friends, enjoy bonding with on-hill activities that our Employee Services department plans. You will even have the option to apply to be a Resident Advisor for your building or join the Fire Crew. I would like to live in Staff Accommodation. What is available? Sunshine Village offers seasonal on-hill housing to approximately 200 employees out of 800. Each department at Sunshine Village is given a certain number of beds to allocate to their employees based on operational needs, therefore accommodation is not granted to all applicants or for all positions. Employees must work at Sunshine Village in a full-time capacity to be considered for accommodation, part-time employees are not eligible. Where is Staff Accommodation located? Banff is approximately 20 minutes from the base of Sunshine Village, with an additional 20 minute gondola ride from the base to the ‘Village’ area. The Village is where our hotel, restaurants, ski lifts and staff accommodation are located. The gondola runs from 7:30am – 5:30pm 6 days a week. This means you are unable to leave the mountain (with the exception of medical emergencies) outside of these hours, and so you must be comfortable living in a beautiful remote mountain environment. There are planned staff events and activities, a restaurant, staff cafeteria, bar, movie rentals and internet available to keep you occupied. Plus of course, the opportunity to meet some great friends to socialize with! On Friday nights we have a late gondola and staff bus (until 10:30pm) so you can visit Banff for the evening. Of course you can easily leave staff accommodation on your days off, mid-day (if you work a night shift) or spend the night in town at a friend’s house or at one of the 3 local hostels. There is staff transportation from Sunshine to both Banff and Canmore. When can I move into staff accommodation? Your offer letter will state whether or not staff accommodation is available for you. You can only move in on your first day of employment. You will need to sign in AND out with Employee Services; a process that involves signing a Tenancy Agreement, learning more about living on-hill, receiving your key and signing a payroll deduction form for your rent. How much does it cost to live on-hill? (Subject to change) Rent is deducted directly from your pay cheques bi-weekly. There is a $150 damage deposit, deducted over 2 pay periods, and is returned when you leave, so long as your room is clean and left in good order. For a double room (most common) rent is $125/2 weeks What do I need to bring for housing? You will need to provide your own bedding (ex: sheets, blankets/duvet and pillows) and any other personal items such as an alarm clock, music players, towel, etc. Furniture is provided in each room. Each of the 4 buildings has a common room with a TV. DVD players can be borrowed from Employee Services if you need one. Rooms & buildings are not equipped with kitchens. Cooking facilities are therefore limited but there are some provided appliances such as kettles and microwaves in common areas. If you wish to purchase the following items they are permitted in rooms; toasters, toaster ovens, small fridges, kettles and microwaves. Hot plates, electric frying pans and grills are not allowed. As Banff is a small town with minimal shopping options these items should be purchased prior to your arrival either in Calgary or Vancouver. Additional services include;Wireless Internet (available for purchase), ATMs, laundry, cable TV, pay phones and transportation to Banff/Canmore. Heat and hydro are included in the rental price Where do I eat? Cooking facilities are very limited; however some items (toaster, rice cookers, kettles, and microwaves, etc.) are permitted in your room. For meals you can swipe your staff pass in our on mountain Staff Caféteria which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner for staff at a subsidized rate. Staff cafe hours: 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (7 days a week) Will I have a roommate? Most of our rooms are double occupancy. We will do our best to accommodate and put you in a shared room with the person of your choice. Can I get internet? Wireless internet is available at a cost of $15/month. Can I get mail delivered to staff accommodation? Chosen Resident Advisors will help to create a positive living environment for all residents of staff housing and liaison between Employee Services and on hill staff for this fun, busy, social environment! In return for the below duties, RA’s will receive half price rent, and the opportunity to host staff trips for a reduced rate. Remain neutral, fair and confidential with all residents To act as a facilitator between Employee Services and staff Act as a “Captain” for house teams Support & encourage staff accommodation policies Contribute innovative and thoughtful ideas Promote a clean, safe and respectful living environment Refer issues that require immediate attention to ES Attend all RA meetings Be available for the encouragement and positive mentoring of residents Conduct one’s self in a responsible manner at all times Be available to volunteer 2-4 hours per week Support changes that add to the quality of living in staff accommodation. Strong organization, communication and language kills(verbal and written) Friendly and approachable Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment Discrete, tactful and diplomatic Strong creativity and interpersonal skills Ability to motivate a staff in a positive manner and achieve great results Applications accepted once the season begins! Other Important Information All of our staff accommodation buildings are Non-smoking There are no pets allowed in any area of staff accommodation Immediate eviction will occur for any illegal activity, including but not limited to: Theft Possession or use of drugs Vandalism Violence of any kind Tampering with fire safety system ( smoke detectors, alarms, fire extinguishers) Any act that puts you or someone else in a safety risk There are quiet times in staff accommodation for the wellbeing and consideration of all tenants. These are enforced by our Security department and we expect tenants to respect the rules and those they share housing with. Any guests visiting and staying in staff accommodation are the responsibility of the tenant and must follow and sign the tenancy agreement upon arrival.
