Live In Banff
Located in the stunning Banff National Park, the closest town to Sunshine is Banff, a 20 minute drive West; where many of our seasonal staff lives. As a world renowned mountain tourist destination, there are museums to visit, shopping and restaurants to enjoy and hot springs to relax in.
Longer term housing
Most people who arrive in Banff without housing look through the local papers when they arrive, or online before they leave home to find a room, apartment or townhouse for rent.
Some helpful links for housing are: Kijiji, Crag and Canyon, and The Rocky Mountain Outlook.
Shorter term housing – Hostels
We recommend reserving accommodation for a few weeks at one of the local hostels before you arrive if you do not have housing pre-arranged.
HI-Banff Alpine Centre - The HI-Banff Alpine Centre is located on Tunnel Mountain, and offers both short and long-term accommodation and discounted rates for Sunshine employees. They also provide free public bus transportation to all guests, an easy way to get into town.
Y Banff Mountain Lodge - The Y is on the banks of the Bow River and minutes away from downtown Banff.
Banff Samesun Backpacker Lodge- Located on the main strip on Banff Ave and only a 5 minute walk to the downtown core, this hostel is newly renovated.
Getting to work from Banff
Staff has the option of driving their own vehicle to work or taking a Sunshine Village bus. If you own your own vehicle you will need 1) a Parks pass from Parks Canada 2) to register your vehicle with the Human Resources Department when you start work.
The staff bus brings you to Sunshine for an 8am shift and leaves by 5:30pm daily (5:45pm when spring skiing starts). There are usually additional buses from Banff to the resort and a staff discount applies to those who would like to purchase a pass.
