Spend your summer at Sunshine Village Iconic Sunshine Meadows hiking opens this weekend June 27, 2014 Sunshine Village and White Mountain Adventures are thrilled to announce that Sunshine Meadows hiking is open for explore this summer. This iconic Banff-area hike has been named the number one day hike in Canada by the Lonely Planet Travel Guidebooks. Featuring fun and challenging trails for all ages and abilities, there’s never been a better time to get the whole family together and spend some quality time in the majestic Rocky Mountains. Getting here Just an hour and a half from Calgary and 10 minutes from the town of Banff, the incredibly accessible day hike sits at 2,220 metres (7,300 feet), straddling the Continental Divide and boundary between Alberta and British Columbia. Visitors to the mountain are often overwhelmed by the transformation from powder-covered ski runs to a lush, blooming valley. From the Sunshine Village Bourgeau base, visitors can take a round trip bus ride up to the village, where the hike begins. White Mountain Adventures operates the Sunshine Meadows Alpine Shuttle every day from June 28th until September 30th, weather dependent. Shuttles run every hour from the Sunshine Village parking lot and once daily from designated spots in the town of Banff. New this summer New offerings this summer include a grab-and-go sandwich and snack station at Creekside Lodge, perfect for grabbing a picnic lunch to enjoy at Rock Isle Lake. In the village area, Mad Trapper’s Saloon will be open and will feature BBQ specialities including pulled pork sandwiches and of course, a variety of beers on tap to quench your thirst after a vigorous hike through the stunning Rocky Mountain landscapes.
