SpringExperience epic conditions and the Rockies best outdoor events scene this April

With warm weather and incredible snowstorms producing springtime conditions of epic proportion, Sunshine is primed to kick off the resort’s plethora of events, races and concerts as skiers and riders reach the homestretch of the 2013-2014 season.

This second week of April the resort will play host to the hottest ski cross racing with Sochi Olympians, feature up-and-coming slalom athletes and unveil new outdoor patio concepts sure to perfect a top notch goggle tan.

Patio hopping and après drinks for every palate

Longer bluebird days have arrived. This weekend, guests can experience the launch of the 2014 Veuve Clicquot Champagne and Oyster Bar on Trapper’s Spring Patio. Look for the backdrop of cheerful, yellow-hued patio furniture, creating the perfect spring vibe while taking in the exclusive people-watching location. Sit back with a glass of bubbly while taking a break from trekking through deep, spring time powder on Sunshine’s slopes.  

What better way to connect with like-minded skiers and riders than to grab a refreshing glass of your favourite beverage in the Molson Coors Beer Garden located in the heart of the Village. This weekend, look for samples of delicious Molson products to whet your palate including Rickard’s Shandy, Canadian Cider and Canadian 67 while listening to region’s best DJ’s performing on the village stage.   

The hottest ski cross racers on the planet hit Sunshine’s slopes

Watch the Olympic gold medallist in women’s ski cross Marielle Thompson, compete on Sunshine’s slopes along with the rest of the national men’s and women’s team with the 2014 Sport Chek Canadian Ski Cross Championships taking place on Friday, April 11. Thompson will be joined by fellow Sochi Olympian and World Cup medallist Georgia Simmerling, of West Vancouver, B.C., and veteran Danielle Sundquist, of Calgary. Races take place on the bottom of South Divide, easily accessible for viewing via the Great Divide Express Quad at 1:30 p.m.

U16 Cresa Finals in Slalom and Giant Slalom

Take in the incredible speed of Alberta’s young alpine athletes with this weekend’s Cresa U16 Slalom and Giant Slalom racing. The two-day event, hosted by the Sunshine Alpine Racers will take place on the Scapegoat ski run off of the resort’s Goat’s Eye Chairlift. Giant slalom racing will take place Saturday, April 12 and the slalom races taking place on Sunday, April 13. Race times begin on both days at 10:20 am and 1:30 pm respectively.
