Love is in the air on the slopes of Sunshine Village

January 21, 2014

When Marcella Coulson and Rob Schlesak headed to Sunshine Village on November 18th for opening day  this season, Marcella didn’t know the surprise  proposal in store.

“By chance we went down a run that only had a couple of ski tracks on it called ‘Forget Me Not.’ Rob’s phone died and he called out to me that he wanted to take a picture,” said Coulson.

“He asked if I could take the picture and to be honest I was a little annoyed,” she laughed, “Instead of taking the picture he took out a ring and asked me to marry him.”

Coulson couldn’t have been more surprised and delighted by the proposal. Schlesak knew how much she loved snowboarding and their love of being outside together, so the proposal on the slopes of Sunshine was the perfect fit for the newly engaged couple.

“It reminds me of being a little girl and playing outside, and that’s exactly how I’d characterize our relationship and love for the outdoors,” she explained.

Both Coulson and Schlesak met when they were both living in the interior of B.C., but since moving to Calgary, Coulson had always wanted to  visit the world renowned resort. Following the romantic slopeside engagement, Sunshine has now become the couple’s favourite place to hit the slopes.

“This was our first time at Sunshine and we loved it! We stayed at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge and the rooms were so cozy and there’s a beautiful view with a wide open window. The hot tub was fantastic too!” said the new Calgarian.

“There’s just something so very Canadian about the whole experience and staying in the Sunshine Mountain Lodge.  My fiancée is pumped because Sunshine Village is now our mountain,” said Coulson.

As for the proposal off the ‘Forget Me Not’ run, she said “I made a last minute choice to go down that run and it just worked out so perfectly. And, he thought it was pretty perfect too.”
