Guests of Sunshine Village are invited to take part in Sunshine Village Avalanche Awareness Days on January 19th and 20th. Learn hands on with our snow safety and ski patrol teams all weekend long.

The snow safety team will be set up in the village from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. They will be demoing snow profile equipment, Snowpulse balloon backpacks, transceivers and RECCO units. A friendly Sunshine Village patroller will be on hand at the transceiver training park (located at the top of WaWa chair) to give search demos and offer instruction on technique.

Get your photo taken with an old Avalauncher gun, or watch a controlled explosives demonstration (weather permitting) on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the North Cornice, just downhill from Delirium Dive.

On Sunday, January 20th, Kai, Sunshine’s CARDA avalanche rescue dog-in-training will be on hand to showcase a search demo.

Following the on-Mountain events, the Banff Centre will host an Avalanche Awareness reception starting at 7 p.m. Sunday night in the Max Bell Auditorium. Admission is free and there will be fantastic door prizes as well as films, presentations and product display booths all focused around snow safety. Sunshine Village will have a booth set up where they will be answering questions about the avalanche terrain within the Sunshine Village ski area boundary.
