Let Sunshine Village help find your winter story on the slopes this season

February 20, 2014

As the world celebrates winter at the Sochi Olympic Games, we are proud to cheer on our Canadian athletes as they compete on the world stage. Alpine athletes of past, present and future have honed their skills on Sunshine’s slopes and with the Rocky Mountains at Calgary’s backdoor, we are able to experience some of the world’s best terrain so close to home. As Canadians we are proud to declare that #WeAreWinter and with that declaration we welcomingly embrace winter.

With Sunshine Village offering up some of the world’s best alpine skiing, join us this February, March and into spring as we enjoy the snow covered slopes. Whether is it capturing first tracks on a powder perfect day, experiencing a snowshoe adventure in a meadow blanketed with untouched snow, or cheering on our Olympic athletes inside the resort’s cozy lodge, let us help you find your winter story.  We invite you to explore a few great reasons for embracing winter on Sunshine’s slopes.

Embrace the simplicity of a champagne powder run

Sunshine’s abundant dry snow creates those picture perfect runs. The resort’s location on the Continental Divide ensures skiers and riders experience the very best conditions sought after by visitors from around the globe. As we enter what is historically known as powder season, it is easy to embrace the simplicity and beauty of winter in the Canadian Rockies with deep powder turns and uninterrupted mountain views all in Banff National Park. Sunshine receives over 30 feet of the white stuff annually, features the longest non-glacial season in Canada, and has over 111 named runs to choose from enabling us to embrace the simple joy of experiencing winter on the slopes.

There are no friends on a powder day

Experience the sheer joy and excitement of hitting the slopes on a bluebird day following a snowstorm that blankets the resort in white gold. Explore why so many look longingly at their skis and snowboards all summer long with childlike anticipation of seeing the first few autumn flakes of snow. As Canadians winter is in our blood and Sunshine offers intro to ski or snowboard programs for guests of all ages and abilities. What better way to embrace those winter months than to get out there and see what the hype is all about.

Go with a pro to fine tune your skills

Take school out of ski with programs that look nothing like the “pizza” of days long ago. Sunshine has introduced new spring break programs designed for intermediate to advanced skiers and riders to help develop and enhance your ability to maneuver in deep powder and steep off piste terrain. Explore big mountain programs for youth and adults alike designed to showcase the incredibly varied expanse of Sunshine Village’s slopes.

Post ski experience with overnight après

There is nothing like waking up in a winter wonderland surrounded by panoramic mountain views, with the chairlift mere steps from your door. Sunshine offers upscale, boutique accommodation with the eco-luxurious Sunshine Mountain Lodge, the only ski-in, ski-out in Banff National Park. Ski all day then soak in an outdoor oasis of heated water with snowflakes falling gently around you. Then stretch your muscles with an on-mountain yoga class, designed with the skier and rider in mind.  Finish with a robust glass of cabernet in front of a bustling wood fireplace surrounded by authentic lodge appeal.  Repeat.
