Spring Concert Series

May 11, 2013

Local Bow Valley residents and musicians, Funk & Disorderly, have been playing together for 20 years and can’t wait to bring back the 70’s and 80’s during Sunshine Village’s retro ski weekend on May 12th.

Where do the members of Funk & Disorderly hail from?

The four piece band all live in the Canmore and Banff area and have been performing together in some capacity for about 20 years. Having all played in different bands over the years, each member of Funk & Disorderly is a sort of house hold name in the Bow Valley.

Where do you perform?

You’ll catch us playing at bars and restaurants throughout Canmore and Banff. We have played at Wild Bill’s in Banff and a ton of other bars and pubs.

What kind of music can we expect to hear from Funk & Disorderly?

We are playing on retro day at Sunshine which means that you will hear lots of music from the 70’s and 80’s. We play everything from old school funk, to reggae, to rock ‘n roll. Our music happens pretty organically, we all just watch the crowd and follow their lead.

Have you played at ski resorts before?

Most recently we played at Panorama Mountain Village’s 50th anniversary which was a lot of fun. Albertans are vitamin D deficient for most of the winter, so it’s so great that we can help get people outside in the sun. We can’t wait to see the retro gear that everyone will be wearing and will try our best to dig out our retro ski gear too.

What’s it like to perform at an outside venue high up in the Rocky Mountains?

I call Sunshine the amphitheatre at the top of the world. Outdoor concerts are a lot of fun and the scenery at Sunshine is truly amazing. We feel closer to the ski gods by just being there, and being able to share our music at a venue like this is a privilege.

What does performing at the Sunshine Spring Concert Series mean to you?

We are thrilled to be a part of the line-up for the 2013 spring concert series. As fans of skiing at Sunshine, we can’t wait to perform at such a beautiful location and see everyone do the ski boot shuffle.

Funk & Disorderly is the fifth act featured in the 2013 Sunshine Village Spring Concert Series with performances on Sunday, May 12th. These live shows can be enjoyed by anyone with a lift ticket or season’s pass. Non-skiers may also purchase a gondola-only ticket to reach the concert area, located in the heart of Sunshine Village.
