Tim Hus

With his sixth album on the way, singer and songwriter, Tim Hus, talks to us about his roots music and how excited he is to be playing at Sunshine Village, as a part of the 2013 Spring Concert Series.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in the Kootenay’s in the interior of B.C. and grew up skiing at nearby resorts. I have more recently relocated to Calgary, however a lot of inspiration for my music comes from back home.

How would you describe your music?

I like to call my music, Canadian cowboy. Its roots are in country, but I have spent so much time touring around Canada that I like to call it true Canadiana music. We write songs about every part of this fine country from Nova Scotia to Vancouver Island and everywhere in between.

Who are your biggest musical inspirations?

I had the privilege of being the last musician to tour with Stompin’ Tom Connors before he passed away earlier this year. We travelled all the way from Newfoundland to Vancouver. This was a great privilege as I have always looked up to Stompin’ Tom. I also love Johnny Cash because he tells great stories.

Where and how often are you on tour?

We are a travelling band in every sense of the word. We’ve been to the US, Europe, Asia and even played in the Caribbean Island, Martinique. Our true love is Canada though, and we try to our best to hit every province at least once a year. This means we’re performing close to 150 plus shows every year.

Have you ever performed at a ski resort before?

We have played a few different ski hills in the past and it’s always great to see how excited the crowds get at these shows. They always seem to be enjoying themselves and there’s usually a bit of a party atmosphere, which is always fun.

What does performing at the Sunshine Spring Concert Series mean to you?

We are really excited to play at Sunshine Village. This will be our first time here and we are eager to bring our country roots to all the skiers and riders. We love the ski crowd and can’t wait to perform for them at the end of April.

Tim Hus is the second act featured in the 2013 Sunshine Village Spring Concert Series with performances on Saturday, April 27th and Sunday, April 28th. These live shows can be enjoyed by anyone with a lift ticket or season’s pass. Non-skiers may also purchase a gondola-only ticket to reach the concert area, located in the heart of Sunshine Village.
