Sunshine Invitational to feature young alpine athletes

February 5, 2014

Sunshine Village will showcase up-and-coming alpine athletes at the 43rd annual Nancy Greene Sunshine Invitational this weekend.

Guests of Sunshine Village can cheer on Alberta’s young alpine racers on Saturday, February 8th and Sunday, February 9th as they compete in the Alberta Alpine Sanctioned kinder kombi and dual slalom races, which will be held on the Tin Can Alley ski run off of the Wawa Express Quad Chairlift.

Young athletes between the ages of seven and 11 will compete for the prestigious Scurfield Cup, which will be presented to the team with the combined fastest race times.  Over 180 kids will compete in this year’s event.

The Sunshine Ski Club was founded in 1971 with the Sunshine Nancy Greene program started in 1983 by well-known local Ski Coach Claudio Berto.  A number of the Sunshine Ski Club’s ski racers have gone on to the National Team including:  (Lana) Blais Mullen, Cary Mullen, Darren Thorburn, Karen Percy, Shona Rubens and current CAST Member Andy Trow.
