Snowstorm blankets Sunshine Village

January 8, 2013

Over 20 cm (8 in) of fresh powder fell on Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort Monday, providing a solid start to the second week of 2013.

Following a successful holiday season at the Canadian Rockies resort complete with warm temperatures and bluebird sunny skies, Sunshine Village is poised to receive an addition 20 cm over the next couple of days.

“Sunshine received incredible early season snowfalls which laid the foundation for an exceptional start to the year,” begins Dave Riley, Chief Operating Officer, Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort. “The recent snow enables us to continue providing guests with world class conditions and soft powder turns into this New Year.”

Sunshine Village’s current snow pack has settled to 139 cm (55 in), providing a solid mid-season base and this week’s forecasted snow will result in nearly 450 cm (177 in) of the white stuff falling on the resort to date.

The recent snow also provides ideal conditions leading into upcoming winter events this first month of 2013.

Upcoming events include:

January 19-20 – FIS learn to ski, kids ski free at Sunshine Village

January 19, 20 – Avalanche Awareness Days

January 20 – Australia Day

January 12 – Feb 10 – Banff National Park Snow Days

Famous for its legendary all-natural champagne powder snow and its unique snow farming technique, Sunshine Village uses 35 km of snow fencing to capture the snow on the resort’s three big mountains.
