Sunshine celebrates Australia Day Sunshine Village celebrates another spectacular weekend on the slopes with Salomon Demos and Australia Day festivities January 24, 2014 With mild temperatures and bluebird sunny skies, the resort will kick off another spectacular weekend with activities for the entire family. On Saturday, January 25th, the resort will feature Salomon Demo Day in the Village, where next season’s technology will be unveiled and on display and guests can sample a variety of different skis. On Sunday, January 26th, Sunshine Village guests are invited to help celebrate Australia’s national day and with many Sunshine employees hailing from the land down under, the celebration moves from the beach to the snow. Guests can indulge in both food and drink specials at both Creekside Restaurant and Mad Trappers Saloon all day long. Features include delicious Angus Aussie Burgers with beet root, pineapple and fried egg in addition to offering up Cooper’s and Toohey’s imported Australian beer. Join us at 9:45 am Sunday at the top of Strawberry Express high speed quad for an Australia Day celebratory parade, where skiers and snowboarders can dress in their brightest green and gold costumes while following the Australian flag bearer while making some turns down the popular slope. Prizes will be awarded to the most colourful and vibrant costumes. Boasting the longest non-glacial ski season with the resort’s mid-November to end of May run, Sunshine has seen 8 cm (3 in) of fresh snow fall on the resort the past few days. The current snow pack has settled to 137 cm (4 ft 6 in), providing a solid mid-season base with over 400 cm (13 ft 3 in) of the white stuff falling on the resort to date.
