Festival of Lights

One of Calgary’s most popular holiday lights displays will kick off November 30th, at 5 pm, with Mayor Naheed Nenshi officially flipping the switch to this season’s Lions Festival of Lights.

The largest free drive-by Christmas lights showcase in Calgary will continue to shine nightly from 7 p.m. until midnight on January 8, 2014.

This year marks the 27 anniversary of the Scurfield family stepping forward to revive the festive event. When the Lions Festival of Lights needed a new key sponsor back in 1987, Sunshine Village and the Scurfield family donated $100,000 to ensure the festival was revived. Their donations over the years now exceed $330,000.

“Calgary is such an important and valued market for us at Sunshine Village, and the Lions Festival of Lights is a great way to thank Calgarians for their continued support,” said Ralph D. Scurfield, President and principal owner of Sunshine Village Ski Resort.

The Festival is now 98% GREEN, created with over 105,000 LED light bulbs and almost 3 km of power chords.  It's put together by volunteers putting in thousands of man hours each and every year and draws over 55,000 visitors per day.
