Sunshine to open with three lifts, 20 runs

 November 14, 2013

Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort will open its doors to guests on Friday, November 15th with three lifts and 20 runs, in addition to opening the Strawberry Terrain Park.

With recent snowfalls blanketing the mountain over the past few days adding to the current base, the resort is poised for a solid start to the 2013–2014 season. Sunshine will also unveil a new look with enhanced program, retail and guest service offerings.

“Opening day at Sunshine has been really strong for a number of years and with recent snowfalls, Friday promises to be another great start,” says Dave Riley, Chief Operating Officer, Sunshine Village. “Following restoration and renovation efforts to Sunshine’s base area following this past summer’s Alberta floods, guests will also see a newer, more polished resort when we open this season.”

Sunshine’s opening day lifts include the Strawberry Express, Wolverine Express Quad and Jack Rabbit Quad. As conditions evolve, Sunshine will provide an update on lift status, as well as a list of runs that are expected to be available. Reduced prices for opening day will be in effect.

Adding to Sunshine’s greatly anticipated opening, the resort will feature both beginner and intermediate lines in the Strawberry Park. Six features will be ready-to-go including 24 foot tubby tube’s, a wide box and propane tank.

The resort will also offer full ski school programs as well as Tiny Tiger and Kids Kampus programs on Friday, in addition to opening all on-mountain dining venues.  Sunshine will also unveil new retail concepts at both Creekside Lodge at the base and in the Sunshine Mountain Lodge.

With 10 cm (4 in) falling the past 24 hours, the current snow pack is sitting at 59 cm (23 in) with over 97 cm (38 in) of snow settling on the resort to date.

Skiers and riders are advised to use caution; early season conditions mean there may be unmarked natural hazards.
