Powder Alert: Sunshine Village receives bountiful snowfall to kick off the first weekend of 2014

January 3, 2014

Sunshine Village received another gift from skies with 19 cm (7 in) of dry champagne powder blanketing the resort the past 24 hours.

The accumulated snowfall has resulted in 53 cm (21 in) of the white stuff falling over the past week, providing an exceptional start to 2014.

Sunshine has received 296 cm (117 in) of snow this season to date with a solid 133 cm (52 in) snowpack and counting.

“We have received snowfall daily throughout the past week, creating ideal conditions on Sunshine’s slopes,” begins Tanya Otis, Manager of Communications and Media. “With such a tremendous amount of snow falling overnight, guests will be able to experience exceptional skiing today and throughout the weekend.”

With the world class resort’s unique location on the Continental Divide, the snow that falls stays throughout the seventh month season.

Sunshine will host a variety of fun activities for the whole family throughout the month of January. Events include FIS World Snow Day, where kids 12 and under ski for free at Sunshine on January 18th and 19th (some conditions apply), Salomon Demo Days on the 25th, where you can check out the latest gear from the globally recognized brand, in addition to celebrations surrounding Australia day and Banff’s famous Snow Days (January 11th through Febuary 9th).
