Sunshine Village top 10 things to do over the holidays

December 26, 2013

The holidays are a perfect time to relax, unwind, and do the things you’ve REALLY wanted to try. We think this a great time to get outside (or stay in) slopeside with a few of our favourite seasonal activities. Without further ado, here is our list of the top 10 things to do at Sunshine Village over the holidays.

1)      Tobogganing under the stars

While spending time at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge come toboggan on authentic maple wood sleds under the night sky. Warming up after tobogganing is the perfect excuse to come cuddle fireside in our Chimney Corner Lounge with a hot chocolate (or two!)

2)      Enjoy Feuerzangenbowle!

Feuer-what? This traditional German alcoholic beverage that’s served during the holidays is a fantastic way to warm up. Light your senses afire (literally) with this delectable beverage.

3)      New Year’s Torchlight Parade

Join us under the stars this New Year’s Eve with our annual Torchlight Parade. Guests of the Sunshine Mountain Lodge can ski in the starlight as they illuminate the night’s sky to ring in the New Year.

4)      Try a private ski or snowboard lesson

Now is a great time to take a private ski or snowboard lesson. Because it’s still early in the season, you can improve your skills in a one-on-one environment to enjoy for the rest of the ski year. Private lessons allow the focus to be completely on you and your progression.

5)      Rent high performance skis

Looking to take your skiing or snowboarding to new heights? Try out a pair of high performance Salomon skis or snowboards. It’s a great opportunity to try something new, and take your skiing to the next level.

6)      Enjoy a crepe on mountain

New at our Java Lift Café this season are sweet and savoury crepes. Kick start your morning with a delicious banana or strawberry chocolate crepe, or warm up when you’re done on the slopes and grab a savoury option.

7)      Snowshoe around the village

While staying at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge head back out after the lifts are closed with a pair of snowshoes. Snowshoeing is a great way to stay in shape while exploring the village from a whole new perspective.

8)      Play in the terrain parks

With three new terrain parks around the mountain, there are tons of different features for the beginners and the park pros. With a brand new park set up off the Wolverine chair this season, there are even more options for those just starting out. For the advanced riders and skiers, Rogers Park is now open for the rest of the season.

9)      Taste the holidays

Looking to indulge in a culinary experience? Come dine at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge for a New Year’s never to forget. With delectable options like roasted Alberta beef tenderloin or pan seared Alaskan cod, the upscale menu featuring Canadian cuisine will surely satisfy the foodie in everyone.

10)   On Mountain Yoga

Feeling tight after skiing or snowboarding all day? Stretch it out after working it out on the slopes with our restorative yoga practice every Saturday night. Led by our very own certified instructor the practice will help you unwind and relax.
