Verdant Creek Fire Update: Sunshine Mountain Lodge to Reopen (Photo: Pavel Tvrdy) Verdant Creek Wildfire Update, August 8th: Sunshine Mountain Lodge to Reopen! BANFF SUNSHINE VILLAGE: For the past several nights, fire teams from Parks Canada have been staying at our Sunshine Mountain Lodge and using our resort as a fire command center while they have worked to contain the Verdant Creek Fire in the North Simpson area of Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park. The firefighters have been successful in their efforts to suppress the fire at its northern boundary. The Verdant Creek Fire remains on the west side of the Continental Divide and is not a threat to the Banff Communities. Tomorrow Morning (August 9th) the firefighters will be checking out of the Sunshine Mountain Lodge, and we will begin to reopen our facilities for guests. On Wednesday, August 9th, the following services will resume at Banff Sunshine Village:• Sunshine Mountain Lodge will open to guests • The Standish Sight Seeing Lift will reopen for guests • Sight Seeing bus rides will resume for guests• Guest Services will be open for guests• The Chimney Corner Restaurant will reopen for dinner service On Friday, August 11th, we will run our Sight-Seeing Gondola and open our interpretive center. We wish Parks Canada and BC Parks continued success in their efforts to contain the Verdant Creek Fire. We are working with Parks Canada to see when we will be reopening our Sunshine Meadows hiking trails.
