Warm weather for Avalanche Awareness Days This weekend, Sunshine Village will boast much warmer weather and a series of interactive events showcasing avalanche safety. Starting on Saturday, guests of the mountain can expect an avalanche control explosive demo set up by our Sunshine Village Snow Safety team. It will take place just downhill of Delirium dive (weather permitting) on the “North Cornice” at 1pm and can be best seen from the top of Wildfire or anywhere on Goat’s Eye. "With the warm weather at Sunshine this weekend, it is a great opportunity to become more educated on avalanche safety,” says John Scurfield, Senior Vice-President Sales, Marketing and Resort Operations. "Awareness is crucial for anyone going into the backcountry or exploring the double black diamond bowls of Delirium Dive." A transceiver challenge will also take place between 1-3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, performed by our Sunshine Village patrollers at the base of the Divide chair. The competition will be a fun event for adults and kids, and a great way to learn how to use your transceiver. Cholo and Cazz, CARDA avalanche rescue dogs will be on hand to demonstrate a search demo, which will be great to see in action. This will happen both Saturday and Sunday at the base of the Divide chair at noon. One of Sunshine’s impressive Avalaunchers will be on display and RECCO will also have a booth onsite, providing a great opportunity to ask questions about RECCO technology. Following the on-Mountain events, the Banff Centre will host an Avalanche Awareness reception starting at 7pm Sunday night. Admission is free and there will be fantastic door prizes as well as Remember, avalanche safety starts with you, so if you plan on breaking out into the backcountry, be sure to check out the Avalanche Awareness weekend and get educated in a fun and safe environment.
