Calgary, AB - With the festive spirit of the holidays in the air, we are pleased to announce that the Lions’ Festival of Lights will once again be lighting up the city of Calgary. The 33rd annual Lions’ Festival of Lights will commence for the holiday season on Saturday, November 30th, and will illuminate Calgary’s Confederation Park until January 8th, 2020.

Founded in 1986, in Calgary, the Lions’ Festival of Lights is the city’s largest drive-by holiday light show. Each year volunteers come together to create the stunning light show. For the 33rd annual display, designer Ian Regier, IR Design, has reimagined the spirit of the season.

For Lion Otto Silzer, who has been a volunteer for the event since 1986, the Festival of Lights is a holiday tradition. “What I enjoy most about the Festival of Lights, is seeing the smiles on the faces of the thousands of families and children who come out each year, to make the event a family tradition.”

Banff Sunshine Village has been a proud sponsor of the Lions’ Festival of Lights since its founding. “For us at Banff Sunshine, creating moments and celebrating memories with our family is what’s important. We’re honoured to be able to share the magic of winter and the holidays with the city of Calgary.” Says Kendra Scurfield, brand and Communication director for the resort.

Focused on environmental sustainability, the Lions Club is pleased to announce that the 2019 festival of lights is now made from 650,000 LED light bulbs. The success of the Lions’ Festival of Lights is credited to the volunteers who donate their time to help construct the awe-inspiring show, the sponsors who contribute by donating resources to brighten the appearance, and the Lion’s Club of Calgary who ensures that the show goes on.

The Lions’ Festival of Lights, located in Confederation Park on 14th Street N.W., will run nightly (6 pm-midnight) from December 1st to January 8th, 2020. For more information on the festival of lights, and the November 30th grand opening, please contact media@skibanff.com.
