Thoughts of Canada’s best snow and a new season pass will keep you cool this summer. Here are some extra tips from Environment Canada to keep yourself, family and friends fresh:

1. Consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day, such as morning and evening hours.

2. Limit physical activity, especially in the middle of the day.

3. Take breaks from the heat, if you’re outside try to rest often in shady areas.

4. Keep yourself hydrated at all times. Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated, non-sugary beverages.

5. Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed, parked vehicle, for any length of time.

6. Apply a sunscreen of at least sun protection factor (SPF) 30, at least 20 minutes before heading outdoors to limit your exposure to ultraviolet rays.

7. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat and sunglasses. Lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing is also recommended.

8. Check regularly on infants and young children. Offer to help your loved ones, especially if they live alone, are 65 or older, are losing their autonomy or are vulnerable to heat.

9. Close the windows and blinds to keep your house cool. Open them in the evening if it is cooler outside.

10. Use the air conditioning to lower the temperature in your home. If your home does not have air conditioning, visit public facilities such as shopping malls, parks, and libraries to stay cool.

11. Taking a cool shower or bath is also a good way to stay fresh.

12. If you have pets, keep them under shade and give them water to keep them hydrated.
