Billy Bunny’s Hotdog Day
Before freestyle skiing was popularized in the 1980s, there was Hotdoggin’
An acrobatic and expressive form of skiing, Hotdogging stood in contrast to the formality of traditional skiing and ski racing. Rather than focusing on control and technical precision, its goal was to descend the slopes in the most spectacular way possible, full of flair, energy, spontaneity, and daring creativity to shock and entertain spectators.
With a deep love for the sport and its heritage, Sunshine Village is hosting Billy Bunny’s Hotdog Day on May 1, 2026, in partnership with Freestyle Alberta.
Registration runs from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the GOAT Club. Practice sessions and course inspection take place from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by the competition from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. The day wraps up with a celebration and après party at the Goat Club from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
This is an open-format event, allowing competitors to complete as many laps as they like during the competition window. Judges will select winners across a variety of categories after the session concludes. Entry is $20—the first 50 registrants will receive a goody bag, and every participant will receive a drink ticket and a meal ticket.
To set the vintage scene, resident DJ Chris Brennan will be spinning 80s and 90s tunes all day. Be sure to rock your best retro ski outfit to match the vibe, and start practicing your Mule Kicks, Back Scratchers, and Leg Breakers to impress the judges.
