Leg Burner Banked Slalom

Banff Sunshine Village & the Canadian Para-Snowboard Team welcome riders back for the Leg Burner Banked Slalom, returning on May 9, 2026.

A banked slalom course features a series of winding, high-banked turns designed to test flow, control, and speed. Navigating the course in a continuous descent, it’s all about carving hard and powering through the burn as you race to the finish. Whether you’re chasing the podium or just carving turns with friends, it’s a captivating event that brings the community together amidst the backdrop of spring riding at Sunshine.

Hosted by Paralympic snowboarder Tyler Turner, Banked Slalom features multiple divisions and participants can expect a jam-style format and prizes from sponsors!

Tyler Turner and Snowboard Canada

After a life-changing skydiving accident in 2017 that resulted in the loss of both legs below the knee, Tyler Turner turned adversity into achievement and inspiration.

He has since become one of Canada’s most decorated Paralympic snowboarders, winning gold in snowboard cross and bronze in banked slalom at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. Building on that success, he has earned three consecutive Crystal Globes and back-to-back world championship titles in snowboard cross. Recently, Turner was named one of five co-captains of Canada’s Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Team, where he added another bronze medal in snowboard cross to his trophy case.

Thanks to Turners initiative and leadership, proceeds from the Banked Slalom event go toward Canada Snowboard, supporting the continued growth of the sport and its communities across the country.
