WHAT EQUIPMENT CAN YOU USE AT BANFF SUNSHINE?

All snow-sliding equipment listed below must be made by a reputable manufacturer, have metal edges, and have a mechanism to stop the equipment from running away.

PERMITTED SNOW-SLIDING DEVICES

  • Downhill skis
  • Snowboards
  • Telemark skis
  • Mono skis
  • Snow blades
  • Sit Skis

PERMITTED *WITH RESTRICTIONS* SNOW-SLIDING DEVICES

Snow bikes, snow trikes, snow scooters

Snow skates

– This equipment is permitted on Goat’s Eye, Wolverine, Teepee Town LX, Super Angel, Great Divide, Standish, and Strawberry chairlifts.

– This equipment is not permitted on Jackrabbit and Wawa chairlifts, or the Mitey Mite and Tiny Tiger carpet lifts.

PROHIBITED SLIDING DEVICES

  • Any device without metal edges or a mechanism to stop it from running away; including:
  • Plastic skis or snowboards
  • Toboggans (e.g. GT Racers, crazy carpets, sliding discs, sleds)
  • Inner Tubes

ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT CONSIDERATIONS

Adaptive Snow Sports Equipment: additional devices used to provide balance or assist adaptive skiers and riders (e.g. long pole, snow slider) should be brought to the attention of the Mountain and Lifts Managers before attempting to board lifts.

Wheelchairs and Walkers: may be accommodated on the Gondola only and depending on the user’s equipment specifications, on the Standish chairlift during our Summer Season.

Cross-Country Skis: only permitted on Strawberry chairlift to access the backcountry. Not permitted on any open ski runs and must be removed to ride chairlift.

Infant Carriers: Infants in infant carriers on lifts are only permitted for sightseeing passengers who are not wearing snow-sliding devices. Skiing or riding with an infant in an infant carrier (wraps, slings, front carriers and backpack style/frame carriers) is expressly prohibited.

Oversized items: if a bag or backpack impedes a rider’s ability to sit safely on a chairlift, the bag must be removed and placed in a seat next to the rider.

Fat Tire Bikes: permitted on and restricted to the Ski Out, after regular operating hours.

E-bikes and regular Road or Mountain bikes: permitted on and restricted to the Ski Out during our Summer Season. Not permitted anywhere at the Resort during the Winter Season.

Snowshoes: Permitted on the Ski Out. Only permitted on Strawberry and Standish chairlifts to access the backcountry or to accommodate a pre-authorized group activity. Not permitted on any other open ski runs and must be removed to ride chairlift.

Related to Fat Tire Bike users, E-Bike, Road/Mountain bike users, and snowshoers using the Ski Out: Uphill travelers must always be on the lookout for resort equipment and other skiers. In low light or inclement weather conditions, uphill travelers must equip themselves with visual aids (e.g. lights, reflectors, lamps).

Kitesurfing, Paragliding, Hang Gliding: equipment, launching, landing, or riding, is expressly prohibited for use within the Resort boundary.

We reserve the right to amend this policy at any time and recommend our guests check back regularly when visiting the Resort with their equipment.
