Sunshine Village’s Opening Day and Day Before

November 15, 2013

Lucky skiers and snowboarders had a chance to play in fresh powder opening day AND the day before

With the skies delivering an abundance of feather-light snow, Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort has experienced a spectacular start to the season. Skiers and snowboarders alike have had the opportunity to play in some of the most fabulous powder in Canada with the resort officially opening its gondola doors to the public.

For opening day, Sunshine has three lifts running (Wolverine, Strawberry, and Jack Rabbit), and 20 runs of fresh turns awaiting excited skiers and riders. It has been snowing for two days, and this snow stormy weather is expected to keep up throughout the weekend.

A select lucky skiers and snowboarders got to hit the mountain a little early for our ‘Ski The Day Before We Open’ sweepstakes. Winners had the opportunity to have first tracks in the knee deep snow off the Strawberry lift.

“It was one of the top five best experiences of my life,” said Brett Clark one to the contest winners.

Another winner, Dave Falkenberg was excited to ski some of the best fresh powder the resort has to offer. “This is the perfect excuse to ditch work for the day and be exactly where I want to be,” said Falkenberg.

Falkenberg who originates from Winnipeg and who now lives in Calgary said, “when I was young I used to take annual trips up to Sunshine – this is like a flash back.”

“It’s the best experience I’ve ever had,” said another one of the winners, Jody Shakespeare. “You never get an experience like that.”

Shakespeare who lives and works in Calgary had the time of her life snowboarding in fresh powder.

“There’s never a time when you get to ski on the hill and there’s never a soul in sight,” Shakespeare explained about her experience.

The mountain is expecting a continual snowfall well into the weekend, and will provide a spectacular ski and snowboard experience all weekend long. Special pricing for opening weekend is in affect with full day adult lift prices set at $49.

The resort also opened with six features and a beginner and intermediate line in the Strawberry Terrain Park.
