What does Banff Sunshine look for in an ideal application?
We are looking for people who want to “wow” our guests, are team players & are looking for a once in a lifetime experience. You’ll fit in perfectly is you are energetic, positive and have a passion for our mountain environment.
I’m not a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, can I apply if I don’t have a work visa?
Yes, you can apply ahead of receiving your visa. However, to be hired with Sunshine you will need to be able to prove you have the legal right to work in Canada. This will include providing supporting documentation I.e. SIN card, Work permit.
What is your recruitment process?
Our recruitment process can vary slightly depending on the position you have applied for.
In general, we begin by receiving your application through our website. We then review all applications, looking for candidates who will be the best fit for the position. If we would like to pursue your application, you will be contacted to set-up an interview. After the interview, we will reach out to successful candidates to request that they provide references.
Whilst we would love to contact all candidates, we receive a high volume of applications for our roles means that we are only able to contact those who we would like to interview.
How soon will I be contacted after applying?
We will do our best to get back to you within a 2-week period if you have been selected for an interview. During busy periods leading up to our Winter & Summer seasons this process may be a little slower and we appreciate your patience in working with us around this. If you haven’t heard with us within this timeframe your application may be unsuccessful this time around.
When do I need to be available for work?
Banff Sunshine’s Winter Season typically opens in November. To help you have a successful season we ask many employees to start ahead of this date for training with start dates commonly occurring in mid to late October.
Our Summer Season typically starts in late June and depending on the position and its training requirement you can be required to start as early as the first week of June.
I’m happy to do any kind of job, what should I apply for?
Make sure to read through all the job descriptions and see which one interests you the most, and which one you have experience in already. If you still aren’t cure, ask yourself these questions?
· Are you happy to work outside in extremely cold weather (-30 in winter)?
· Are you comfortable to standing for long periods of time doing repetitive work?
· Would you enjoy being in a customer facing position? To provide our guests with the best experience possible?
· Are you happy to work outside in hot weather (+30 in summer)?
· Are you comfortable working outside within a mountain environment where it can snow all year round and bears have been seen onsite over the summer?
How many jobs can I apply for?
As we receive many applications, we ask that you apply for only one job. If we have a position available that we think will suit you better than the one you have applied for, we will put your application forward to that manager/supervisor to review.
Do you conduct telephone or skype interviews or face to face Interviews?
Yes! We can conduct telephone and skype interviews. If you are able to meet us for a Face-to-Face interview, we would love to meet you in person! However we understand that this isn’t always possible and will work with you to coordinate a solution that works for both parties.
Can I email my resume directly to you?
No. Sunshine uses an online centralised recruitment system which requires all applicant to complete a questionnaire as well as submitting their resume. To be considered for a role with us, you will need to go through this application process.
What documentation will I need to provide?
If you are successful in your application to work with Banff Sunshine, you will be required to provide the following before starting work:
· Social Insurance Number
· Copy of work visa (if applicable)
· Government issued ID (Passport for those coming from outside of Canada)
· Criminal Record Check (dated in the last 6 months)
· Bank Details
· Proof of health care or Travel Insurance
· Other, job specific documentation (Pro Serve, Drivers Licence...)
How long are the Winter Ski Season and Summer Season for Banff Sunshine?
Banff Sunshine is home to Canada’s longest non-glacier ski and snowboard season. We open for winter recreation from mid- November to late may. Our Summer season runs from July to early September.
We require all team members to be available for training a minimum of two weeks out from our opening dates. Staring dates will be discussed in the interview stages.
Is there staff transport to and from the mountain?
Yes! Sunshine provides FREE transportation from both Canmore & Banff during peak hours when the greatest amount of staff need to get to the resort (i.e. arriving at the resort for 730am and leaving at the end of the day at 530pm).
For added convenience, if you are not working and want to get to the mountain you may ride one of our guest buses to and from Banff throughout the day. There are no additional buses from Canmore to Sunshine village: however, there is ROAM regional public transportation that runs throughout the day between Canmore and Banff. Is there staff accommodation available?
Sunshine has limited staff accommodation that is available for specific roles. You can inquire about staff accommodation within your interview.
Our accommodation on mountain has limited kitchen areas. We do, however, have a staff cafeteria that provides meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner at an affordable cost, catering to various dietary requirements and focusing on providing good quality, healthy meal options.
Do you provide staff uniforms?
Sunshine uniforms are provided to staff in accordance with their role.
Outdoor staff are provided with outdoor pants, jacket and a mid-layer jacket. You will need to provide your own shoes and thermal layers. It can get to -30 without wind-chill so you will need to be prepared!
Indoor staff are generally provided with an indoor jacket and long sleeve shirt depending upon the position. You will need to provide your own black pants, warm under layers and close toed footwear.
Outdoor staff are provided with rain pants, t-shirt and a jacket. You will need to provide your own shoes and underlayers. You also need to be prepared for surprise snow storms that can come through at any time through summer. Yes, it does happen.
Indoor staff are provided with t-shirts for the season. You will need to provide black pants and footwear. Also, its a good idea to be prepared for the surprise snow storms that may come through.
