New year, new terrain! We at Banff Sunshine have opened steep and deep terrain for you to ride on Goat’s Eye.

Thanks to mother nature and our mountain operations team, our South Side Chutes are now open for the 2020/21 season! Wahoooo!

In just under 5 minutes, Goat's Eye Express carries skiers and snowboarders up a vertical of 1,860 ft (566 meters). From the top of Goat's Eye Express, skiers and snowboarders have an array of choices, varying from the gentle blue of Sunshine Coast to the most thrilling and challenging expert terrain. For the advanced skier and riders, Goat's Eye Mountain is a true paradise.

Back in December of 1995, when Goat's Eye Express was being built, we named some of the double black runs in homage to some of the toughest neighborhoods in the United States. For example, the steep tree runs of 'Hell's Kitchen', which will have you cooking up a sweat, was named after Hell's Kitchen in New York.

Likewise, The South Side of Chicago is infamous for being the toughest neighborhood in the Midwest. If you are not a local, you will find yourself asking "what am I doing here?". Our South Side Chutes, which conveniently face the southside, can be a little intimidating. Even the best skiers and snowboarders fight the butterflies as they hike up, "cross the tracks" and drop into the expert terrain.

A ski down our South Side is a wild ride. One we highly recommend you add to your must-ski list.

Challenge yourself to Banff's most technical runs this season. When carving the South Side Chutes, the snow and slope pitch can vary in an instant. At drop-in, you are skiing a slope of approximately 50 degrees. Inside the chutes, you are skiing a slope that ranges from 40 to 30 degrees.

If you are hoping to get into the expert terrain this winter, we recommend you scope it out before you ride it hard. As it is still early in the season, when riding South Side Chutes, ski and ride with extra caution as there may be exposed rocks and other unmarked hazards.

This season we, at Banff Sunshine, are operating with strict Covid protocols in place.  Our number one goal is to stay open so we may continue to provide you with a healthy outdoor recreational experience. Visiting us soon? Be sure to bring your mask and face covering. Face coverings are required when riding our gondola and lifts and when standing in line, and face masks are mandatory to enter any of our facilities. Together, we believe we can bend the curve and reduce the spread of Covid-19.
