What does Banff Sunshine look for in an ideal application?

We are looking for people who want to “wow” our guests, are team players & are looking for a once in a lifetime experience. You’ll fit in perfectly if you are energetic, positive and have a passion for our mountain environment.

I’m not a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, can I apply if I don’t have a work visa?

If you’re serious about working in Canada, you can apply in advance of receiving your work visa. However, to work at Banff Sunshine you will need to have a valid work visa and you will be required to provide all supporting documentation including your SIN card and work permit.

What is your recruitment process?

At Banff Sunshine, our recruitment process may vary depending on the position.

For most positions we ask that you start by applying online. Our team will review all applications submitted through our website. After we review all submissions for a job, if we think you’ll be a fit we will reach out to you to schedule an interview.

Please note that due to the high volume of candidates we receive we are not able to respond to everyone. If we do not contact you, you are encouraged to keep checking our job postings and to apply for future positions.

How soon will I be contacted after applying?

If after we review all submissions for an opening we think you’ll be a fit for our team we will reach out to you within two to four weeks to schedule an interview.

When do I need to be available for work?

At Banff Sunshine, we as a team work to bring the magic of the mountains to life for our guests. We welcome guests from around the world in both winter and summer. To ensure we deliver on guest service excellence we do require successful candidates to be arrive at Sunshine prior to our season opening dates for training.

Our typical winter season runs from early November to late May, and our summer season runs June to September.

I’m happy to do any kind of job, what should I apply for?

At Banff Sunshine Village, we have a wide variety of jobs both indoors and outdoors, guest facing and behind the scene that are essential in our quest to bring the magic of the mountains to life. If you know you want to work at Banff Sunshine, but not sure in what capacity we recommend that you read through all our job listings. If you’re still not sure, these questions can help:

Are you happy to work outside in cold weather?

Are you comfortable standing for long periods of time?

Would you enjoy being in a customer facing position?

Do you want to be active – either on the mountain or inside?

Are you looking for a non-physical position?

How many jobs can I apply for?

If you’re eager to join our team, we kindly ask that you apply for just one position. If you are open to a position different than the one you applied for let us know in the comment section. If we think you’ll be a fit for a position different from the one you applied for we’ll put your application forward.

Do you conduct telephone or skype interviews or face to face Interviews?

Yes! We can conduct telephone and skype interviews. If you are able to meet us for a Face-to-Face interview, we would love to meet you in person! However we understand that this isn’t always possible and will work with you to coordinate a solution that works for both parties.

Can I email my resume directly to you?

No. Sunshine uses an online centralised recruitment system which requires all applicant to complete a questionnaire as well as submitting their resume. To be considered for a role with us, you will need to go through this application process.

Does Sunshine Village complete references?

Yes, we require 2 references from all candidates. To help you and us get the required references as quickly and easily as possible we use a program called XREF.

References are conducted after your interview. Please make sure to check your emails as you will receive an email from XREF to complete the reference component.

We cannot move your application to the next stage without these references, so we appreciate your prompt response to XREF's email.

What documentation will I need to provide?

Depending on where you are joining us from, you’ll need to provide documentation including: social insurance number, copy of work visa (if applicable), government issued ID, and additional position-specific documents. Your offer of employment will include a completed list of required documents.

How long is the Winter Ski Season and Summer Season at Banff Sunshine?

Banff Sunshine is home to Canada’s longest non-glacier ski and snowboard season. We open for winter recreation from mid- November to late May. Our Summer season runs from July to early September.

We require all team members to be available for training a minimum of two weeks out from our opening dates. Starting dates will be discussed in the interview stages.

Is there staff transport to and from the mountain?

Yes! Sunshine provides FREE transportation from both Canmore & Banff during peak hours when the greatest amount of staff need to get to the resort (i.e. arriving at the resort for 730am and leaving at the end of the day at 530pm).

For added convenience, if you are not working and want to get to the mountain you may ride one of our guest buses to and from Banff throughout the day. There are no additional buses from Canmore to Sunshine village: however, there is ROAM regional public transportation that runs throughout the day between Canmore and Banff. Is there staff accommodation available?

Sunshine has limited staff accommodation that is available for specific roles. You can inquire about staff accommodation within your interview.

Our accommodation on mountain has limited kitchen areas. We do, however, have a staff cafeteria that provides meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner at an affordable cost, catering to various dietary requirements and focusing on providing good quality, healthy meal options.

Do you provide staff uniforms?

Sunshine uniforms are provided to staff in accordance with their role.

WINTER

Outdoor staff are provided with outdoor pants, jacket and a mid-layer jacket. You will need to provide your own shoes and thermal layers. It can get to -30 without wind-chill so you will need to be prepared!

Indoor staff are generally provided with an indoor jacket and long sleeve shirt depending upon the position. You will need to provide your own black pants, warm under layers and closed-toe footwear.

SUMMER

Outdoor staff are provided with rain pants, t-shirt and a jacket. You will need to provide your own shoes and underlayers. You also need to be prepared for surprise snow storms that can come through at any time through summer. Yes, it does happen.

Indoor staff are provided with t-shirts for the season. You will need to provide black pants and footwear. Also, it's a good idea to be prepared for the surprise snow storms that may come through.
